Outlook 2010 no longer able to mark calendar entries as read?

I recently upgrade from outlook 2007 to outlook 2010.

We use several shared public folder calendars to manage our company scheduling.  We have thousands of entries in these calendars.  When you go to the calendar pane in outlook, these calendars show up in bold showing the calendar entries as unread (which is thousands of items).  If you open one up and look at it and then close it, it will mark as read.  It USED to be, in outlook 2003/2007 that you could look at the calendar in list view, select all of them (CTRL-A) and then either use CTRL-Q or right click to mark read.   Or, you could right click on the calendar in the left hand pane and mark all as read.

It would seem that this "mark read" functionality for calendar entries has been removed in outlook 2010 (although I could not imagine why).

Has anybody else noticed this issue?  any solution?

Thanks
