Hello,
When ivestigating this issue for a specific Customer we found out that several others have the same issue, explained below.
This specific user has a RDS 2008 R2 server with a lockdown ppolicy not allowing them to use mapped drives, so when attaching a file fom a UNC share they need to browse the network for the fileserver and then browse to the actual shared folder.When they do that using the paperclip Icon in Outlook 2010 (In this case) Outlook stalls/freezes for approx 5min, that is when opening the initial UNC fileserver path i.e \\fileserver . After those 5mins they can continue to browse past the initial path and attach multiple files without problems.
Whilst troubleshooting this, I have tried all available "solutions" I found with google and the Technet Forums, i.e clearing browser history, disconnect old mapped drives,disable roaming profiles, creating new users without any lockdown GPOs etc etc to no avail. Interestingly enough I have found out that it differs with different Server OS versions on the fileshare server.Look at this matrix:
Outlook2007 on Win2008TS->SBS2008 Fileshare= Works
Outlook2007 on Win2008TS->Win2008 Fileshare= Works
Outlook2010 on Win2008TS->Win2008 Fileshare= Works
Outlook2007 on Win2008TS->Win2008R2 SP1 Fileshare- = Doesn´t Work
Outlook 2010 on Win2008R2RDS->Win2008R2 SP1 Fileshare = Doesn´t Work
Outlook2010/2013 on Win7/Win8->Win2008 R2 SP1 Fileshare - =Doesn´t Work
As it seems the common thing is Win2008 R2 SP1 as Fileserver
Can anyone cast a light on this ?
