We are having some issues with users becoming disconnected from Outlook after they change an AD password with a logged in session remaining active (meaning they are authenticated to a domain joined machine and change a password while remaining logged in). During a password reset in our organization we ask that users logoff after a password is reset, but of course this doesn't always happen.
The question that I have is how/when does Outlook re-authenticate to Exchange/AD after a domain password is changed? What are the triggers for this to occur?
The reason this question is being asked is that we are experiencing some differing outcomes during testing. Some people will reset their password in AD and Outlook will function correctly for an extended period of time and others will stop receiving mail and not be prompted for their new password, etc.
Any insight to how the connection is established/re-established would be beneficial.
