Outlook Set-Up Failed

Outlook 2010 failed to set-up properly and I keep getting the same error messages. I was setting up my computer for the first time and was downloading updates and dropbox at the same time.:

  • First message: The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Microsoft
Exchange must be online or connected to complete this action.
  • Second Message: C:\Users\Bill\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\bmccarron.ost is not an
    Outlook data file (ost).
My version of Windows is Windows 8 Pro with Media Center and I was setting up Outlook for access to my Exchange Server. I've tried uninstalling Office with no change in the problem. The system also tried to repair Outlook, but did
not succeed. I also had set up my other computer a month ago on Windows 8 and had no problems with it and I've installed for Exchange on Windows 7 without problems. I would have thought I would have made whatever the major goof is the first time I installed Windows 8 - not the second. Any ideas or do I just turn it over to the tech guys at work?
