Hi Microsoft Community,
I'll try it in short:
An Outlook 2010 user (Exchange 2007) worked for the last 2 years without issues. --> We assumed.
What happened in reality? He *got new mails*, sent some, he worked on them, moved them to several folders, etc.
The status bar *even now* shows: "All folders in sync", "Connected to Exchange" --> he got no error messages at all.
Looking into OWA the mess shows up:
Nearly everything from the last 2 months is still in the inbox, many, but not all move operations have not synced to the Exchange.
Looking into Outlooks "Synchronisation Problems" folder we see the same error message showing up since 2 months:
"[several successfull syncs...]
[80040600-30090401-0-310]
Error in File .../.../.OST "
We have followed the instructions in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814441
--> have run Scanpst.exe and tried fixing the OST several times without success to the sync issue - although scanpst says it has solved errors.
The point is:
- Exchange is completely out of sync now
- The user did not receive error messages at all (pop up ones - who actually actively monitores his/her SyncProblem Folder!?) - EVERYTHING looks normal and doesn't seem to have any issues.
My questions to the experts:
How to solve this kind of problem without losing the work of months? (Export to PST -->delete Exchange content - import from PST still has the risk, that some/many messages that are corrupted due to the failing OST file, won't get their way back into the
Exchange Server)
And - even more important - how to track these kind of errors?
This could have happened to more than one person and nobody would be aware of it at all. This is really important - even a very good backup solution will not help here.
There are no Exchange errors I am aware of.
