How can I share an Outlook data file (PST) between a notebook, where I want to open it, and a desktop, where I want to be able to "Windows Search" it?

I'm in an Exchange Server / Outlook 2010 / Windows 7 environment.  I am a bit "ADD," so rely heavily on Windows Desktop search to help me find notes, past work, and emails about items I need to work on.

I archive older, "for reference only" items off to a PST file, on our network, so that I don't hit my Exchange Mailbox limit.

I had hoped to be able to "share" that file between my notebook (where I would OPEN it, in Outlook) and my desktop (where I just want to be able to identify, using Windows Search, whether information exists in the archive file).

But it seems that a Windows search actually "grabs" the PST file, making me get an "in use" message when I try to open it on my notebook.

Oh, additional information - I prefer to run Outlook in cached mode, at least on the desktop, due to occasional and unexpected network disconnects, but this isn't a REQUIREMENT.

Any suggestions how I can have a PST file open on one PC, but accessible on another, without having to start/stop Outlook repeatedly to "release" the PST file?

Thanks
