RPC over HTTP connection issue

Hello,

We are experiencing a problem with running RPC over Http on our WLAN where Outlook 2010 is very slow to connect to out Exchange 2010 Server.

To explain in more detail, on the normal LAN we use TCP/IP connections and that is fast as you'd expect.

From External, (ie from home) we connect in using RPC over Http and that is pretty much instantaneous to connect as well.

If we put a computer on the WLAN it takes at least 60-90 seconds just to connect. The Exchange server is local to this WLAN. Our WLAN is firewalled to only allow a couple of ports such as Http so Outlook is forced to use RPC over Http to connect to Exchange.

Now, if I manually turn on 'On fast Networks, connect using HTTP first, then using TCP/IP' Outlook connects instantly on the WLAN.

The default on all clients is that this checkbox is disabled though as we want to use TCP/IP on the LAN.

So Outlook seems to take that 60-90 seconds to realise that it cannot connect via TCP/IP and then connects via Http? Is that normal and is there anything we can do to speed up the process other than that checkbox?

Regards,

Andrew
