Upgrade in Progress – Your mailbox is currently being optimized as part of upgrading Outlook 2010

I just installed Microsoft Office Professional 2010 (from the setup discs) after a computer crash caused by a faulty hard drive. I replaced the faulty single hard drive with a solid state boot drive as drive C:\ and a new 1 TB hard drive as drive I:\. The MSOP 2010 installation was a clean install on drive I:\. All the applications seem to work fine initially except Outlook. The problem with Outlook:

  • After I start Outlook 2010, it says:
    1. “Upgrade in Progress – Your mailbox is currently being optimized as part of upgrading Outlook 2010. This one time process may take over 15 minutes and performance may be affected while the optimization is in process.”  It seems this process never completes itself.
    2. Also, it says “Upgrade Outlook Connector – You must upgrade to the latest version of Outlook Hotmail Connector to continue using this e=mail account.”

I have removed all .pst files from the computer, as I wanted a new installation. I have tried to create a new Mail Profile as suggested in other threads. I seem to have successfully created the new Mail Profile as it shows up under Mail – Profiles – Show Profiles. However when I try to “Add Account” in Outlook, nothing happens. Same results when I click “Account Settings”. As for the Hotmail Connector message, I don’t use Hotmail and never have, so I have no need for this “connector”.

  1. Word – Every time I start Word, it has to “Reconfigure” Word before it starts. I don’t have this problem with the other applications, i.e., Excel, etc., even Outlook 2010 – which starts fine, but has other issues - see above.

Thus far I have uninstalled MSOP 2010 and reinstalled (again using the setup discs with the same problems. Actually I didn’t have the Word problem initially – only after the re-install.

I also tried to “Repair” the installation which didn’t solve the problem. Do you have any suggestions? I have read the other treads and don't see anything I haven't tried. This Is frustrating considering the clean install.
