iCloud Sync Best Practices

I've been asked by a friend to help sync his contacts with Outlook 2010. He currently uses a Gmail account which connects over the air with his iPhone using ActiveSync (mail + contacts + calendar). I guess that's your standard setup. But he wants to engage Outlook.

I saw Apple recently came out with the iCloud system and thought it might provide good solution, since:

  • the phone can connect with it over the air, and
  • there is an iCloud desktop connector for Outlook.

Has anyone got a chance to try it out? Does it work?

Would you advise to turn off ActiveSync synchronization for contacts if I turn it on in iCloud? (avoid three-way sync between Gmail <-> iPhone <-> Outlook at the cost of losing Gmail)

Is it possible to use the same iCloud login on two computers each running Outlook? So we can have the same contacts on both.

Is it possible to set the iCloud contacts folder in Outlook--once created--as the default location for NEW contacts?

Hoping for some valuable feedback from users.

Thanks
