we are experiencing an issue with Office 2010 and Exchange 2010 regarding RPC over HTTP. We have performed a lot of testing and narrowed the failure down to a policy setting for Internet Explorer 8. When the policy is applied, the RPC/HTTP connection fails at certain sites. Without the applied settings, RPC/HTPP connectivity is successful. The problem is we are not sure where to look in the browser policy, to determine the root cause. The following facts are known.
1.) The failure does not affect all our laptops.
That is the same settings are successful at some sites, while not at others.
2.) The failure appears to be site specific.
That is, a laptop will consistently fail at a specific location, but moving the laptop to another location, allows successful connectivity. However, removal of the Internet Explorer 8 policy will allow successful connectivity at the failed site.
3.) Establishing a VPN connection with the Internet Explorer 8 policy applied at the failed site, will create a successful connection.
4.) This is on both wired and wireless connections.
5.) There appears to be no ISP or router/model specific correlation.
6.) Internal router firewalls have been verified off.
Are there any specific browser settings we should focus on, to start with?
