Running Office 2010 on Windows XP SP3 in a corporate environment. When using Outlook 2010, creating a new email and trying to attach a file, the initializing places prompt appears and stays on the screen for 10+ minutes, sometimes returning to the "open
file" window but other times just crashing Outlook. Same "initializing places" prompt appears when attempting to "Save as..." whether in Outlook, Word or Excel. Most users do not have network drives but some do have links under my network places, usually to
web locations. Clearing the Outlook recent places folder as well as clearing the "recent places" pane in Word and Excel fail to resolve the issue. Even physically disconnecting the pc from the network and rebooting does nothing. Removing and reinstalling also
fails to resolve. Am i missing anything that I should be checking? I see that this issue affects thousands of users and has been reported in numerous forums for many years yet Microsoft has yet to investigate or even provide a workaround? And yes I have
tried every resolution posted on every forum I can find to no avail. The issue remains. For some reason the issue does not seem to affect Windows 7 pc's to the same extent. Any and all thoughts are appreciated.
