Hello all!
Outlook 2010 32-bit
Exchange 2010 SP2, v14.2 Build 247.5
Using Archive Database
To start, I'm not certain about the correct terminology: is it "Contacts Module" or "Contacts Window" or "Contacts View" when referring to the contact view (shortcut Ctrl+3)? I'll call it "Contacts Module" for now.
I and several other users are forced to hold on to a large quantity of data. We have different usage needs for this data, but I will describe my own testing and situation.
- I have 3 Contact folders under my user@domain.com and around 40 contact folders under my Archive - user@domain.com. Every contact folder I have appears in under "My Contacts" in my Contact Module.
- The three primary folders have the "Outlook Address Book" tab that allows me to control if they appear as Address Books. The 20 Archive contact folders do not have that option. They all appear in the Contacts Module regardless of whether or not they are Address Books.
- The Address Book control (Control Panel > Mail > Profile Properties > Address Books Tab) reflects the checkbox settings of the three primary folders. The Archive folders do not appear in any Address Book.
- The Archive contact folders do not appear in OWA.
- The Archive contact folders do not appear in Exchange ActiveSync devices (cellphone).
The above descriptions do not change no matter what I have tried. I have recreated my profile, run Outlook with switches such as /resetnavpane, recreated my Address Book, and buried contact folders under mail subfolders.
My questions for Technet:
- Does anyone know exactly how contact folders appear in the Contact Module? Does it scan and populate every folder of every account or data file you have open? Or is it more complex than that?
- Is there a reason (more than "it's not supported") for why these do not show up in OWA or EAS?
- Is it possible to make contact folders NOT appear in the Contact Module?
- Is it possible to have some Archive contact folders appear in OWA?
- Is it possible to have some Archive contact folders appear in the Address Book?
Thank you everyone!
