Powerpoint 2010 Save and Send : creating Handouts in Word 2010

A number of users have a problem when trying to save and send as a handout in Powerpoint 2010. WHen they attempt this, the error POWERPOINT COULDN'T WRITE TO MICROSOFT WORD appears. I've done some research on this and the problem appears to be the fact that the NORMAL.DOTM file resides on a network share. (all our profiles use folder redirection and the appdata folder is redirected in this instance)

If the normal.dotm file is removed from the appdata folder on the network share, it works fine. However, restarting Word reinstates this file.

Is there a way to fool it into thinking that the normal.dotm file is located locally? or is there some other way to overcome this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We are using Microsoft Office 2010 and Windows 7 Enterprise 64
