We are using Outlook in conjunction with Office 365 accounts and recently, one of our users has been getting frequent errors while using the program. The computer in question has Outlook 2010 w/SP1 installed running on Windows XP Pro, the same as many of our other computers, yet only this user seems to be having the problem.
The specific error is a dialog box that pops up every so often that simply contains the message "Operation Failed." Unlike most of the other forum posts I've read, this error is not related to a specific task, such as sending a message, or to something like an email attachment. We have noticed that it tends to appear more frequently when the user switches between different modules (for instance, switching from calendar back to email often triggers the error). The error does not seem to be causing any problems with program functionality, but it happens frequently enough that is significantly impacting the usability.
I have tried several different fixes, and eventually, I completely uninstalled Outlook and reinstalled it. I also tried completely removing and recreating the user profile as well. However, it still exhibits the same behavior.
The only other thing that I have noticed is that there seems to be a correlation between receiving the errors and the following event occuring the in the event log:
Event Type: Information
Event Source: Microsoft Office 14 Alerts
Event Category: None
Event ID: 300
